How does civil litigation end?

Civil litigation can end in a couple of different ways. One of the most well known or popular ways is for a trial, where the parties go to court and they have a trial on their case. It can also end by a settlement, if the parties can agree and work the case out. Often times there is motion practice, so one side may win after a motion is filed, but those are the basic ways that will end civil litigation.
